Medical Grade Masks
The Sewing Hui created medical grade masks for healthcare providers across Maui. From our initial project as Maui Face Mask Project, Russell Van Dyken and Dr. Irminne Van Dyken designed a dual-filter high quality face mask when there was a N95 mask shortage on Maui.
Our dual-filter face masks were modeled after a flat-fold N95 mask. They have a (1) surgical gown or sterilization wrap outer later, (2) 2 layers of 3M Filtrete 1500 filters which filters pet dander, bacteria, viruses and other microscopic particles. This filter is also electrostatically charged — designed to pull in and trap small particles. Equivalent to a MERV-11 rating, (3) non-woven cloth posterior later, and (4) fitted nose piece and elastic securing straps.
This project was completed on May 15, 2020 with 10,411 high quality medical grade masks donated to schools and healthcare providers across Maui. After completing this project we provided an additional 3,018 medial grade masks to organizations and schools across Maui.
Total Masks - 13,429
